North End Library Dedicates "Honors Walkway"

The Honors WalkwayThe Friends of the North End Branch Library are very proud of their new "Honors Walkway" and want to share the good news of its completion and dedication with the neighborhood.

This is a true example of cooperation between the library staff, volunteer residents, generous donors and the contribution of neighborhood business owners. The walkway looks terrific!

Thanks to Robin Ardito for submitting this report of the dedication ceremony.

Paula Luccio, Phyllis Vitti, Peter Greene, and Donna Wells – Friends of the NE Branch LibraryThe Friends of the North End Branch Library held a Dedication Ceremony to thank all those who dedicated a commemorative brick to the Honors Walkway that honors neighbors and loved ones.

Phyllis Vitti, project chairwoman, opened the dedication ceremony with a few words about the project including the background on how the need to support our local branch library came about and concluded with a great thank you from the Board.  The Board would especially Natalie Robinson, Sallie Katz, and Toby Bernstein look at their bricks.like to thank Janet Budda and her entire Library staff; Del Cate, Pave-Lok Engraving; Chris Wells, for his volunteer work in designing the layout; and Michael DelloRusso, DelloRusso Construction, for volunteering his services for the installation.

Over forty attendees enjoyed this ceremony bringing their stories about the neighborhood with them.  Each brick has a rich history behind it – from the Colonial times to the very present with the birth last week of one of our newest residents and everything in between.

Tom Damigella and his father Tom look at the brick dedicated to his father. The proceeds from this fundraiser will help establish a permanent fund for the maintenance and upkeep of the outdoor gardens and the restoration and lighting of the flagpole.  The flagpole has already been accomplished due to the generosity of Mark Tallent, Property Manager 44 Prince Street Condo Association, who donated the flag; John Sullivan, Prince Postale, who donated the hardware for the new rigging and his services for the installation; and Michael DiPrizio, who donated the services of his bucket truck and helped John with the installation of the rigging and solar lighting to complete the project.

The Friends of the North End Branch meet the third Wednesday of every month at the North End Library at 25 Parmenter Street at 6:30 pm.  New members are welcome.
