Comment and Forum Post Policy
Friday, December 4, 2009 It is terrific to see all the comments and posts that folks contribute to NorthEndWaterfront.com. They help fulfill the mission of the website to present the “News & Views of Boston’s North End/Waterfront Neighborhood.”
I encourage folks to share their information and opinions. There are two places on NorthEndWaterfront.com where you can post your comments, opinions, information or announcements. The “Comment” link at the end of each blog post on the Home page is for comments relating to that post. There is also the Discussion Forum where you can create your own threads about anything you want. The “Forum” link is at the upper right of all webpages.
Here are some general rules of the road:
- Only registered members may post comments. You can register here. To post, you need to be logged in. The Member Login is on the upper right side of the every page on the website.
- You must use your own identity when posting. This means your real first name and at least an initial for your last name , i.e., “Matt C” if not your full last name. The reasoning is to have some attribution by commenters, without members being forced to have their last names show up on search engines. If I think you are faking your real identity, I will delete your comments.
- Be civil and respectful of others. There is a lot more that could be said here because “respect” is a subjective term. The goal is to keep a free-flowing discussion while avoiding a harsh, hateful attacks. Stick to the issues, avoid personal attacks. At the end of the day, it is a judgement call and I will try to enforce as best I can with no guarantees that I will be consistent on any given day.
- Stay on topic. For off-topic issues, use the Forum.
- If you have a financial or a personal conflict on the issue, disclose it.
- This is a non-commercial website. I don’t get paid or sell advertising. Posts for neighborhood functions and activities are fine, but please avoid blatant advertising unless there is some benefit to the community (i.e., a charity event, 10% off for residents, notable information/news, special functions, etc.). Feel free to post anything in the public interest, such as neighborhood group events, non-profit/charity activities, benefits, award dinners, etc.
- NorthEndWaterfront.com takes no responsibility if you are harmed by the comments or posts of others. The Telecommunications Act of 1996 protects Internet-based services, such as this website, from being held liable for postings by third-party contributors.
- If you are quoting a source or article, please remember “fair use doctrine.” This means all direct quotes must be linked or otherwise identified and that copyrighted works should not be reproduced in their entirety if an excerpt will suffice.
- Your posts may be edited or deleted. If you are a repeat offender, you will be banned.
- This policy may change as the website develops over time. Your feedback on this policy is encouraged via email at info@northendwaterfront.com.
