Midnight Fireworks on Boston Harbor
Friday, January 1, 2010 Crowds came over to the watefront to ring in 2010 with fireworks at midnight on Boston Harbor as part of the First Night celebrations. Here are some video highlights:
BAKE SALE & FLEA MARKET FOR ST. FRANCIS HOUSE
The North End Friends of St. Francis House will hold our 6th annual Bake Sale and Flea Market on Friday March 19th and Saturday March 20th at the Nazzaro Community Center at 30 North Bennet St. The event will go from 8am to 6pm on Friday and 10am to 2pm on Sat. We will have all kinds of homemade baked goods and wonderful pastries and cookies from all of the bakeries and pastry shops in the neighborhood. We will also have Mary Romano’s world famous eggplant sandwiches, meatball and sausage sandwiches.
We will also have tons of great flea market items for you to buy. We will also be collecting spare change. No amount is too small (or too big). If you would like to send in a donation, make checks payable to St. Francis House and mail to John Romano 247 Burlington Avenue, Wilmington, Mass. 01887. All of the proceeds we raise those two days and collect ahead of time will be matched by an anonymous donor, so your donation counts twice as much as you give. For more information call John Romano at (617) 880-9901 or e-mail at patjr@comcast.net.

Start planning now for New Year's Eve on Boston Harbor! The Boston Harbor Association, in coordination with First Night Boston, Boston's Mayor Thomas M. Menino and the Mayor's Office of Arts, Tourism, & Special Events, and the Boston Redevelopment Authority, is hosting special events and promotions for you and your family to enjoy along Boston's waterfront to ring in the New Year.
Featured waterfront events this year include tours offering a first-hand view of Boston's Working Port. From 12-4 p.m., The Boston Harbor Pilots Association welcomes you aboard their vessel, the Chelsea, and the U.S. Coast Guard will host tours of their newest rescue vessel. Both vessels will be docked at the John Joseph Moakley Courthouse.
TBHA will host a mid-day cruise around Boston Harbor for First Night button holders. Come aboard for an hour-long, narrated tour of Boston Harbor and the islands.
Visit Boston Harbor's newest ground-floor facility at Independence Wharf, 470 Atlantic Avenue, where children can participate in quiet activities such as coloring, drawing, and reading. Be among the first to view intriguing new interactive displays about Independence Wharf and Boston Harbor - while enjoying free cookies and cider - until 6 p.m.
TBHA Executive Director Vivien Li will lead a free, 45-minute HarborWalk tour of the new Norman B. Leventhal "Walk to the Sea" at 2 p.m. for First Night button holders. The tour is suitable for both adults and children.
See fireworks like you never have before! There will be a midnight cruise to welcome the New Year with a dazzling fireworks display. Tickets for the free cruise will be distributed at Gate C on Rowes Wharf, beginning at 9:30 p.m., to the first 300 First Night button holders.
Don't miss your chance to visit another new addition to the waterfront this year, a one-of-a-kind pocket maritime museum at Battery Wharf. Discover the history of the neighboring Coast Guard facility and Boston's maritime history.
There will be free continuous shuttle service for First Night button holders to travel with ease between events, waterfront hotels and restaurants, and waterfront cultural facilities, thanks to support from the Boston Redevelopment Authority. The shuttle service by Old Town Trolley Tours will begin at 12 noon on New Year's Eve and depart approximately every 10-15 minutes through 10 p.m.
Enjoy Boston Harbor while avoiding traffic on a City Water Taxi from Boston Shipyard and Marina, 256 Marginal Street, East Boston, at 8 p.m. to Long Wharf/ Quincy Market. The return trip will be at 11:30 p.m.; a $5 special is available for each trip for First Night button holders.
Don't forget to stop by the many waterfront hotels and restaurants offering special First Night promotions. For a complete list, visit www.tbha.org starting 21 December 2009.
